Govt consults on widening CO alarm regulations in England

The government is consulting on plans to require CO alarms to be fitted alongside the installation of any fixed heating appliance. It has opened a consultation on its proposal to extend the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Regulations (England) 2015 and on the provisions in Building Regulations guidance for CO alarms.

It is consulting on plans to extend the regulations to require smoke and CO alarms in social housing, to make CO alarms mandatory in all rentals with heating of any fuel type, and to require them to be fitted alongside the installation of a fixed heating appliance of any fuel type in any home (excluding gas cookers).

The consultation is launched alongside publication of its Social Housing White Paper.
