The highs and lows of ‘Chasing A Man’s Job’

With the industry facing a skills shortage, a new autobiography by gas engineer Jennie Jones could help to encourage more women to fill the gap.

Pipe Dream: Chasing A Man’s Job looks back at her journey through plumbing, how and why she joined the industry – and its highs and lows.

Jennie says knew the odds would be stacked against her when she decided to retrain as a plumber at the age of 38. But whatever obstacles came her way, she refused to give up, and for the past eight years she has run her own heating and plumbing company in Weymouth, Dorset.

Every day has been unique, she says, and she’s faced workplace injury, childcare issues, sexism, stress exhaustion – and more. Throughout her plumbing career, she kept notes that have formed the backbone of her book.

You can order now it on Amazon as an ebook, and in paperback from 15 November.
