How to set up 2FA

Gas Safe Register helps to protect you and information about you by using two-factor authentication (2FA) every time you use the engineers’ section of the website. You must set up 2FA to be able to log in to your online account.

If you haven’t done this yet, or you’re not sure of the best way to do it, the Register advises that you may find it easier to set up 2FA initially using a desktop computer instead of your phone.

After you’ve set up 2FA, you’ll find it straightforward to log in to your online account using your phone whenever suits you: your verification code can be sent to either your email address or phone.

Below is a step-by-step guide to setting up your 2FA.

1. Log into the engineer website
   
2. Choose Start Migration
   
3. Your current User ID will be displayed in the top field. In the Password field please enter your current website password
   
4. You will then be asked to provide a valid mobile number. Once entered, choose Send Code and you will receive a text message to your phone
5. The text message from msverify will include the security code. Enter the security code into the field and choose Verify Code
6. Once the code has been accepted, you will be asked for an email address to which to send another authentication code. Enter the address of an account to which you have access and choose Send verification code. The code will be sent to this mailbox
   
7. When you receive the email, enter the code into the Verification Code box and then choose Verify Code. You can copy and paste the code from the email
   
8. Once the code has been verified, choose Continue. This will start the account creation process9. Initially your screen may go blank for a few seconds10. You will see a loading page while the account is being updated. DO NOT refresh this page while this is taking place
   11. Once the account has been updated, choose Continue and you will be logged back into the website
   
   12. The next time you log in, make sure you choose 2FA Login from the Sign-in page
   

   13. Use your 2FA user ID and password and choose Continue
   

   14. Choose where to receive the verification code and choose Send verification code. This will default to email if you do not choose
   

   15. Enter the code you received in the message and choose Verify code
   

   16. When the code has been accepted, choose Continue
   

   17. You will see a loading page while you are being logged in. DO NOT refresh this page
   

   18. When you have logged in, the website will display as usual
