Heatwave courtesy crisis: majority of Brits won’t offer cold drinks to tradespeople
More than half of Brits would not offer a cold drink to tradespeople working in high temperatures, according to new research from MyBuilder.com.
With temperatures often exceeding 30°C this summer, construction workers and other outdoor trades face increased risk of heat-related illness, making hydration essential. However, the survey found a lack of hospitality from homeowners when it comes to tradespeople, with 53% of Brits saying that they would not offer a cold refreshment to tradespeople.
A gender divide was also revealed, with 53% of women saying they would offer a cold drink compared to just 41% of men.
Despite this, 56% of respondents said they would offer tea or coffee, while 17% would even offer an ice cream. The research also found that 34% of Brits would not allow tradespeople to use their toilet.
Andy Simms, from MyBuilder.com, says that being a tradesperson in the heat can be challenging and dangerous, but homeowners can make this summer a little easier.
“Working in high temperatures can be one of the toughest parts of the job for many tradespeople during the summer. While many bring their own water, they’re often working away from easy access to kitchens or other facilities, so a simple gesture like offering a cold drink can make a long, hot day a little easier.”
