Colder months prompts warning on unsafe heating circulation pumps
With heating season on the horizon, Wilo is encouraging installers to source heating circulation pumps from reputable suppliers.
The reminder comes amid the annual surge for replacement pumps as heating systems are serviced, upgraded or repaired ahead of the colder months. With many on the lookout for new circulation pumps, the manufacturer is reiterating the need to prioritise safety and reliability over short-term convenience or cost savings.
Despite ongoing efforts to crack down on unsafe imports, thousands of non-compliant pumps are still entering the UK each year — posing both safety risks and the potential for legal consequences for those purchasing or installing them.
“With heating season around the corner, it’s essential that installers understand the importance of sourcing circulation pumps from reputable suppliers,” said Andy Thompson, National Sales Manager – Plumbing & Heating, Wilo UK. “The consequences of cutting corners go beyond inefficient energy consumption or inconvenient maintenance – we’re talking genuine safety risks.”
Wilo is advising installers to conduct four crucial checks on domestic heating circulation pumps:
- Check the pump’s CE Marking
- Ensure it comes from a reputable pump manufacturer
- Look for an energy efficiency index (EEI) rating
- Be cautious if the pump is significantly cheaper than similar market alternatives.
The company’s compliance checker service is available to help verify the authenticity and safety credentials of pumps before installation, helping to prevent non-compliant models from entering homes and facilities.
