Smart Brits have saved £500 million on energy bills
Britons have saved a whopping £500 million over the past 12 years on their energy bills by using Hive smart thermostats, according to data released by the eco-tech company to mark Earth Day on 22 April. That’s enough energy to power the planet for two and a half days and prevent 1.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions being emitted into the atmosphere, it says.
The everyday actions of Hive’s 2 million-plus thermostat users have saved a carbon equivalent of powering more than 539,000 homes for a year, charging 560 billion smart phones or driving more 6 billion petrol car miles – enough to circle the earth 240,954 times.
Hive thermostat was an industry first that enabled users to control their heating through their smart devices. Gav Murray, director of Home Heating, says: “It’s astounding to see the collective impact our customers have made on both the planet and their wallets since Hive launched back in 2013.
“What started as a single thermostat has transformed into the UK’s largest home eco-tech company, offering a range of solutions that transform householders’ ability to live greener, lower bills and control their energy. We want people to know their power and today’s milestone shows what’s possible.”
Hive says investing in a smart thermostat can save £192 per year on energy bills, making it easy for users to see a return on their investment in eco-tech and continuing to save them money while making a positive environmental impact.
