Worcester Bosch welcomes govt officials to see the Heat Training Grant in action

Officials from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and Midlands Net Zero Hub (MNZH) have visited Worcester Bosch’s HQ to assess how the Heat Training Grant is being used.

The £5 million Heat Training Grant provides heating engineers with a £500 discount towards the cost of becoming a qualified heat pump installer. Applicants need to sign up for the training through their chosen provider and confirm that they are elible: there are courses in more than 60 locations throughout England, including Worcester.

DESNZ and MNZH spoke to people from the manufacturer as well as installers to discuss the funding and the effectiveness the training itself.

The number of people completing training to become qualified heat pump installers saw a significant increase last year, rising by 166% from just under 3,000 in 2022 to almost 8,000 in 2023. Worcester Bosch has trained 582 delegates across its facilities in Worcester, Wakefield and Thurrock.

Martyn Bridges, director of External Affairs at Worcester Bosch, says: “Today’s visit by DESNZ & MNZH to our HQ provided an invaluable opportunity for them to see first hand how the grant funding is being utilised and assess the effectiveness of the scheme. This direct engagement is crucial for ensuring the continued success and improvement of the initiative and we are looking forward to continuing our close working relationship with DESNZ and MNZH moving forward.”
