Your help needed to shape updates to key standard BS 6798
BSI is planning to revise BS 6798 and wants to hear from you to help ensure the standard remains practical and relevant.
The specification covers the selection, installation, inspection, commissioning, servicing and maintenance of gas-fired boilers with a rated input not exceeding 70kW net.
This is an important opportunity to help shape one of the key standards used across the domestic gas industry. The initial revision will focus on keeping the standard aligned with current industry practice, regulatory expectations and the evolving safety requirements reflected in Gas Safe Technical Bulletins.
BSI is also keen to hear from the people who use the standard every day, so that wider practical experience can inform the review.
Whether you are a manufacturer, installer, service engineer, specifier, certification body or enforcement authority, your experience is invaluable. BSI wants to understand the challenges you face when applying the standard, where guidance could be improved, which emerging technologies or practices should be reflected, and whether any parts of the standard no longer work as intended.
Standards are developed by industry, for industry, and your feedback can directly influence future requirements and guidance. By getting involved, you can help improve safety, support consistency across the sector, reduce ambiguity, and ensure BS 6798 remains practical and relevant in real-world situations.
This is your chance to help shape the future of gas boiler installation and maintenance practice, so the standard continues to meet the needs of both industry and consumers.
BSI welcomes comments of any size, from a single issue that has caused concern to broader suggestions for improvement. If something could make the standard clearer, safer, more practical or better aligned with modern industry practice, BSI wants to hear from you.
You can comment here and the deadline to give your feedback is 2 August 2026.
