Jail for illegal gas fitter who put his customers’ lives at risk

A self-employed Bolton plumber has been jailed for 16 months after carrying out gas work illegally while claiming to be registered.

Bolton Crown Court heard that Aaron Davidson of T/A AD Plumbing Solutions had fitted boilers at two properties in Bolton and Bury in January and March 2018, claiming that he was Gas Safe registered.

The inhabitants of the properties contacted Gas Safe Register about installation defects, and the Register’s investigations officers found that Mr Davidson’s work was of a poor standard. In the property at Bury, the installation was not to current standards, while the property in Bolton contained At Risk defects that could have put the occupants’ lives in danger from the potential escape of carbon monoxide, as well as the risk of electrocution.

The HSE investigation found that Mr Davidson had never been Gas Safe registered and was not qualified nor competent to carry out gas work.

Aaron Davidson, of T/A AD Plumbing Solutions of Chip Hill Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to breaching section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, and Regulations 3(3) and 3(7) of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 as amended. He was sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment.
