It’s National Radiator Day!
1st November is National Radiator Day: a date to celebrate the 200 million radiators that keep the UK’s homes warm. And, as more low-temperature heating systems are installed, heating engineers are playing an increasingly important role in ensuring their suitability.
Stewart Clements, director of the Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors (MARC), says: “Heating engineers have a vital role to play, advising consumers on how important it is to insulate their homes to increase the efficiency of low-temperature heating systems, such as heat pumps.
“Once any remedial work has been done, they can carry out heat-loss calculations to establish what outputs are required. This means that radiators, even while still on a gas boiler heating system, can be run at a lower temperature and are more energy and cost efficient. And, if [consumers] are not yet in a position to move to a heat pump, their heating system is futureproofed and ready for when they want to make the switch.”
The MARC website includes a useful heat-loss calculation tool and guidance on specifying radiators.
