Cadent – the new name for National Grid Gas Distribution

National Grid Gas Distribution has been renamed Cadent. The change of name and brand comes after National Grid plc sold off its majority stake in the company for £13 billion.

Cadent is an independent business owned by a consortium of investors. Chief executive Chris Train, whose background is in National Grid Gas Distribution, Transco and British Gas, says: “I’m very excited to announce our new name, inspired by the word ‘cadence’ – which embodies the natural rhythm and energy running through everything we do.

“As Britain’s largest gas network, we look forward to a strong future ahead, supported by our various partners.

“Our day-to-day role will remain the same, as will the National Gas Emergency Service phone number and our enquiry line numbers. We’ll continue to strive for innovative ways to operate and maintain our network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.”

Cadent employs more than 4,500 engineers and specialists to ensure 11 million homes have safe and reliable gas supplies. It maintains a network of 131,000km of pipework across the North-west, West Midlands, East Midlands, East Anglia, North London and parts of the Thames Valley.

Rebranding has started and will continue to roll out over the next 12 months.
