Gas Safety Week 2025: 15 years of keeping the nation safe

8th – 14th September 2025 marked the 15th annual Gas Safety Week (GSW), a milestone moment for our industry-wide campaign to keep the nation gas safe.

This year’s theme, “Looking after home, friends, and family”, highlighted that gas safety is everyone’s responsibility from engineers to landlords, families, students in their first homes and those caring for elderly relatives.

To mark the occasion, Paul Davies MP, Huddersfield, and Chair of the APPG for Carbon Monoxide, hosted a special reception in the House of Commons on 11 September on behalf of Gas Safe Register bringing together MPs, government representatives and industry professionals.

Rob Denman from Gas Safe Register thanked supporters for their contribution to 15 successful years of GSW. Gordon Lishman, Chair of the Gas Safe Charity, shared some of the work the charity have been doing to raise awareness of gas safety and carbon monoxide poisoning by working with trusted intermediaries to reach the most vulnerable in society. Simon Main also from Gas Safe Charity talked about the “think CO” workshops they have been doing across the UK. Oliver Lancaster Chief Executive Officer of Institution of Gas Engineers, and Managers (IGEM) talked about how the large business forum and IGEM are sharing information with not only gas engineers but other trades to ensure gas safety is not compromised.

For engineers, Gas Safety Week is a reminder of the critical role you play in safeguarding homes, businesses, and communities. The campaign’s strength comes from the collective voice of thousands of engineers and organisations who contribute year after year, helping to spread essential safety messages far beyond your own customer base.

The 2025 theme resonated with the idea that gas safety doesn’t stop at the meter. Whether it’s landlords arranging annual checks, parents supporting students moving into rented accommodation, or neighbours encouraging one another to stay safe – we can all make a difference.

Gas Safety Week 2025 reached millions of people across the UK with vital best-practice advice and resources. It demonstrated once again how working together as an industry makes a bigger impact than working alone.
