Gas Safe welcomes new MD Jonathan Samuel

Jonathan Samuel is Gas Safe Register’s new managing director from 1 June 2015. With more than 27 years’ experience, primarily in the gas, energy and utilities sector, Jonathan will be central to continuing the Register’s success with industry bodies in delivering a quality service for engineers and raising awareness of gas safety to the UK’s 23 million gas consumers.

Having begun his career as a service engineer, Jonathan joined the previous gas registration scheme in 2002, where he was responsible for the field operations inspection data systems. He played a key role in the transition from CORGI to Gas Safe Register, and has continued to work closely to transform the scheme.

More recently Jonathan has also worked on successful contracts within Capita’s central government services.

In addition to his hands-on operational experience, Jonathan has a wealth of expertise in developing and implementing business strategies and change by increasing efficiencies and transforming services.

Jonathan said: “This is a really exciting time to take on the role of managing director at Gas Safe Register. As the Register enters its seventh year of operation, we will continue to build up consumer awareness of the Register; work with the industry to deliver improved value for money; inform and educate registered engineers on issues of gas safety; and combat illegal gas work.”

Jonathan replaces Russell Krämer who has been chief executive of Gas Safe Register since 2013. Russell is moving on to a new opportunity within Capita.
